GambleAware's 8th Annual Conference took place on 28 January 2021 on the subject:
‘Treatment of gambling harms: collaborating on a long-term plan’.
The conference was held virtually and reported on recent developments in the treatment of gambling harms and explored priorities for the future. Alongside a keynote presentation, the programme also covered the following sessions:
- Developing care pathways
- Innovations in treatment
- Assuring delivery
Within these sessions the conference looked at the benefits of a multi-agency response and how this contributes both to the National Strategy for Reducing Gambling Harms and to the long-term planning of the National Health Service. Additionally, the conference provided an opportunity for speakers and participants to consider how gambling treatment issues need to be taken into account in the forthcoming review of the Gambling Act 2005 and in the development of an Addiction Strategy for the UK.
The three sessions shared several cross-cutting themes, such as:
- The involvement of people with ‘lived experience’;
- The importance of reducing inequalities; and
- What has been learnt from the experience of planning and delivering services during a pandemic.
