The National Gambling Support Network

The National Gambling Support Network

The National Gambling Support Network, formerly known as the 'National Gambling Treatment Service'. A network of organisations working together to provide free and confidential support for anyone affected by gambling.

Redesign of gambling treatment services

We are currently redesigning the National Gambling Support Network (NGSN) to meet the growing and changing needs of those at risk of gambling harm in Great Britain.

Our recent 2021 Treatment and Support Survey found that only a small group of people are accessing treatment services in Great Britain compared to a much wider population in need of them.

Following an independent review and engagement with gambling harm providers, people with lived experience, the NHS the Local Authority partners, we now have a set of commissioning intentions. These outline how we plan to work with providers and partners over the coming years to deliver a new service delivery model.

The new system will be comprised of:

·         a refreshed, multi-channel ‘National Gambling Helpline’

·         ten regional alliances to better integrate regional and local systems

·         increased residential treatment programmes

·         and a new system co-ordinator role to improve connections between national and regional providers.

We are currently working with stakeholders and partners on this new delivery system with Expressions Of Interest (EOI) processes underway and new contracts to be in place by early 2023. If you would like more information about the NGTS redesign please contact info@gambleaware.org.

Data Reporting Framework

All treatment services funded as part of GambleAware's developing National Problem Gambling Service implement GambleAware's pioneering Data Reporting Framework (DRF). This ensures that data is compiled on the nature and outcomes of the treatment they provide to a nationally agreed standard.

GambleAware has commissioned ViewItUK to conduct independent collection and analysis of output and outcome data with more granular detail. Data will be validated by checks and procedures similar to those that fulfil that function for the National Drug Treatment Monitoring System on behalf of Public Health England (PHE), and the system made available to the NHS.

This data will allow GambleAware to rigorously evaluate these outcomes on the basis of robust and comparable evidence. GambleAware is actively encouraging other non-GambleAware funded problem gambling treatment services to use the DRF to help build what is anticipated to be a world-leading dataset, and to inform the development of best practice and outstanding care in Great Britain.
